The Great Bathtub Adventure

The folks who owned the house before we did chose to put a tub liner over an iron bathtub. Less than a year after living here water seeped under the liner making it feel like you were showering on a Bosu ball.

Mr. Fix-It cut a hole in the liner so that we didn't  fall and die which triggered a mold obsession with Fancy. She fretted tirelessly about the mold that had to be forming under the liner and biding its time to kill us (or kill our home resale value-whichever came first).

We finally decided to purchase a new tub (around $500) after being told it would cost about $5000(!) to put in a liner. So, Mr. Harley (Fancy's dad) came over to install the new tub with Little Bro White Tiger and his boyfriend in tow to do the clean up work. I called Mr. Fix-It to help pull out the (ridiculously heavy) old tub and when he arrived he realized that he needed to help Mr. Harley do the whole job. He was super happy.

So, they pulled out the old tub and occasionally yelled for the boys to clean up and many hours went by. Mr. Fix-It's whole head was red and this okapi thought he was going to kill someone. Mr. Fix-It hates bathtubs.

Eventually they got it all put together and bolted to the wall. It was officially safe to use (although there were a few...gaps).

The new tub is a little smaller than the old one, so there is a gap on the floor, too. A month later and we're still trying to  figure out exactly what to do about that. So, anyway this is what it looked like upon the departure of Mr. Fix-It and Mr. Harley...and so it stayed for a week.

Juice Diet Aftermath

I was at the store when I saw this Tums ad. and was reminded that I should tell you folks about the after affects of the juice diet on my system. Prior to this I never really had any gas issues, but now even eating something with a little bell pepper in it cramps up my stomach unbearably. I no longer like red peppers.

In fact, I'm kind of uninterested in a lot of vegetables. That juice diet fucked me all up and now I have stomach issues. I hate the goddamn juice diet. That is all.

Old School Prices

These are some menus that my parents' had saved from places they worked, oh say 40+ years ago. They ran across them this weekend while moving furniture and I thought I'd share them with y'all.

Click on those images and check out the awesome prices. Banana Royal? That'll be $0.80.

The most expensive meal is under $3. Awesome!

Joe's Crab Shack

Tonight we went to check out the new Joe's Crab Shack that opened in Henrietta. I've never personally been to a Joe's Crab Shack before, but boy am I glad that I went! We met up with my parents and when my dad asked for a bib, the waitress asked if he wanted an insulting one. When he agreed and I cheered, she said she had something in mind and then came out with this. She is goddamn awesome.

Many people do not like themed restaurants where they make the waitstaff do ridiculous things. I am not one of those people. Every time that someone walks out of the kitchen with an order of crab they yell, "I'VE GOT CRABS!!!" I smiled every damn time. Oh, and every half hour or so a song (like YMCA) comes over the speakers and the entire staff stops what they're doing to dance in unison. It's like a crab staff flash mob and it is glorious to watch.

If you sign up for their email list they send you a coupon for a free appetizer, so naturally we ordered the calamari. This was cooked well (not chewy or rubbery) and the spicing was decent, but I've had better. Sorry about the late (and half eaten) pic, I was in the restroom when the food came...

Fancy ordered the Old Bay Steampot and it was delicious. There was crab, clams, corn, potatoes, and a sausage. The crab was cooked perfectly and the clams were quite tasty. This came in at just under $25, so you know, expect to spend some dough at this place.

Mom had fried shrimp and french fries which she reports as being very good.

I'm a pain in the ass, so I asked if I could get the coconut shrimp and have half of the order as regular fried shrimp. They were happy to oblige which is a good sign for sure.

Dad had the Bean Town Bake which ran him around $40, but came with two lobsters. He enjoyed it thoroughly. So, the dinner was good and the waitress awesome (she gave this okapi a second glass of water while the first was half full), and the atmosphere was super entertaining. Now for the bad news: it was so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you and there was no bread. The no bread thing really gets me because seafood isn't terribly filling. It's definitely worth checking out if you like seafood, so this okapi gives Joe's Crab Shack 4 stars.

The Worst Law School Analogy You'll Ever Read

Going to law school is like this:

You show up and you have this really sweet swiss army knife that you made through undergrad and all of your life experiences. Your first day they drop you off on a jungle island, hand you a machete and tell you that your swiss army knife is useless there. They then tell you how to sharpen the machete and give examples of how having a machete helps you to survive on a jungle island. They also tell you a lot of stories about other people who have been left on the island and what has happened to them (these stories do not make you feel better). Then they leave you there. A week later they release all of the animals that they had quarantined.

Oh well, at least they have unicorns on the island.
